HOOK VILLAGE HALLS – THE VIBRANT HUB OF THE COMMUNITY
Hook Village Halls has regular events, classes and meetings to suit every age and taste, making them the hub of our community. Visit www.hookvillagehalls.org.uk for more details or phone 01256 764000 to ask about our discount packages for new weekly hirers to help get you going. In addition to hall hire, the HVH charity also hosts its own fantastic activities to ensure everyone has a chance to make use of the halls.
A Reminder for our 2019 Programme
Last month we delivered a leaflet to every household. We hope you kept it to remind you what is going on in the halls. If you didn’t, visit our website www.hookvillagehalls.org.uk, sign up to our Facebook page, or pick up another copy of the leaflet at one of the halls. Before the end of August we will be undertaking another leaflet drop so you know what’s on.
The Defibrillator
Hopefully, you will recall from our April article that Bernice and John Wall very kindly donated money for the Elizabeth Hall to have its own defibrillator. We need to fund its installation and so we have organised raffle tickets for a Grand Summer Draw. For just £1 a ticket, which are available at the halls and at the village shows, it will be drawn on Monday 9th September.
Prizes include a luxury Tesco Hamper, 4-Ball Golf Day at Sandford Springs, Hortus Loci Garden Design, Paella cooked for a party of 10 plus lots of other prizes like a mobile phone, vouchers, gin, etc. Pop into the halls and buy some tickets.
New Double Lines on the Elizabeth Hall Access Road
Thank you to everyone who helped us achieve double yellow lines on the access road, especially our District and County Councillors, and our retired District Councillors, Mike Morris and Brian Burchfield, who spent four years on the case on our behalf! We had so much feedback from users about how dangerous it could be, especially in twilight and at busy times, we just had to do something.
Hook Books
Please keep those fiction paperbacks and children’s books coming into the Elizabeth Hall for Hook Books. The new community library is doing really well on the 3rd Thursday of the month between 2 and 4pm as well as its ‘top up’ service in Tesco.
With over 1500 books to choose from at the Elizabeth Hall, it is also a popular social gathering as well with scrumptious homemade cakes to be enjoyed, so make sure the monthly Hook Books dates are in your diary and come and join us.
County Councillor Jonathan Glen popped along last month to check on our progress with Hook Books and to see the crates and trollies that we bought with the £600 he gave us from his devolved County Councillor budget.
Says village hall trustee and Hook Books organiser Sue Hinton, “We are really grateful for Jonathan’s wonderful support in funding the crates and trolleys. Our volunteers are mostly ladies of my age and to lift crates around the halls for a pop up library is out of the question. It is just so easy to manoeuvre the crates and the book cupboards that the Parish Council gave us a grant for.”
Do you want to learn how to paint and draw?
Hook Village Halls have recently started a small fun and friendly weekly art class on Thursday afternoons at the Elizabeth Hall which is suitable for everyone – from beginners upwards, providing a relaxed atmosphere where you can work at your own pace.
The classes are taught by Bethany Y Milam who believes that art is for everyone.
This art class is a two-hour class and costs £15 per class on a pay as you go basis.
If art interests you, contact Chris Terrey: christopher.terrey@hookvillagehalls.org.uk
Hook Village Halls – What New Classes would you like?
In recent months, Hook Village Halls have introduced several special interest classes for the local community, including art and Tai Chi. However, there is a lot of potential for even more new and exciting classes.
Some ideas we’ve had include:
French; German; Mindfulness; Afternoon Tea Dances
If you are interested in attending (or running) any of these classes or have any further ideas for classes that you would like to see being run in Hook, please email christopher.terrey@hookvillagehalls.org.uk.
