CALLING CRAFTERS, STALLHOLDERS AND THERAPISTS
We are doing very well in attracting stallholders for the Craft & Produce Fayre in the Community Centre on Sunday 15th July from noon to 5pm and the Pamper Evening on Friday 22nd June from 7 to 10pm. It would, however, be good to see even more local people signing up as many of our stallholders have come through advertising on websites.
So if you are interested in taking part in the craft fayre, which is being run in association with the annual Hook Village Show, project led by the Hook Lions, please do get in touch with the village halls team on 01256 764000 or email enquiries@hookvillagehalls.org.uk.
Stalls are just £25 for the day and include a table and two chairs.
With more help and more volunteers the Hook Village Show promises to be bigger and better this year but we will leave it to Hook Lions to keep you up to date with their exciting developments.
Stallholders tables and therapists space for the Pamper Evening are £20. Tickets, to include a glass of bubbly, are just £5 per person.
The Craft Fayre and the Pamper Evening both help HVHCA to fundraise for the village halls.
A GENTLE REMINDER OF MORE HVH EVENTS
In addition to external organisations hiring the village halls, HVHCA also runs a few events and activities, which they hope to build on, to keep our village halls alive and vibrant and to help with fundraising.
On Sunday 9th September the Village Halls are joining forces with the Hook Allotment Association and Hook In Bloom to bring the village the Hook Flower & Produce Show and the Hook In Bloom presentation. Again another very popular village event. Look at the Hook in Bloom article to see how you too can get involved.
Tables are also being booked well in advance for our Music and Paella Evening on Saturday 22nd September. The tickets are just £20 per person and includes food and a live band from Guildford called The Famous Five. Plus there’s also a cash bar. The Famous Five band is very popular so the evening should be great fun.
Another popular event where tickets are selling well in advance is the Laughterhouse Comedy Night, on Saturday 20th October, which is being organised by Jan Jacks who runs the Basingstoke Laughterhouse Comedy Club. At the last comedy evening The Elizabeth Hall was filled with laughter and now the comedians have gauged Hook as an audience, this year’s should be even better. The cost is just £14.50 per ticket again there’s a cash bar.
Children’s Halloween Party is on Friday 26th October from 2.30pm to 4.30pm in the Elizabeth Hall – more details nearer the day. Then on Saturday 9th February 2019 plans are afoot for a Valentine themed Ceilidh. So another lively village gathering!
HIRE A HALL
If you need to arrange a child’s birthday party, with prices starting at around £9 per hour, the Community Centre and Elizabeth Hall offer 7 varied sized halls for hire to suit meetings, classes and parties. Hook residents can book the large halls in both venues for as little as £17 per hour with amazing 3 hour children’s party rates starting at £29. Visit www.hookvillagehalls.org.uk for all the rates. OUR REGULAR CALL FOR TRUSTEES/DIRECTORS
Play a positive part in the success of our village halls! The charity Hook Village Halls Charitable Association, which is led by a group of volunteer trustee/directors, is responsible for the running of the two village halls – The Elizabeth Hall and the Hook Community Centre.
As trustees, the directors abide by the rules of Charity Commission and the articles of association and memorandum of HVHCA, which can be found on the HVH website, and have an obligation to all Hook’s residents to make sure the halls are managed fairly.
As ever, like all charities, Hook Village Halls is always looking for support and help. Have you got time to help us? Would you like to play an active part in the success of the village halls charity? We need more trustee directors in Hook Village Halls Charitable Association. Please consider becoming one. You will be made very welcome by our forward looking energetic team. Just drop the village halls manager, John Watson – john.watson@hookvillagehalls.org.uk an email to arrange an informal chat.
P.S. JOHN RUNS HIS FIRST EVER HALF MARATHON
On 14th April Hook Village Halls Manager, John Watson, ran the Thames Valley Spring/Windsor & Eton Half Marathon raising £675 for Macmillan Cancer Support. John and his wife, Rachel, ran in memory of John’s mother who sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer and associated complications in 2016.
Says John, “I decided that if Mum could face what she had to then I could run a half marathon. My only goals were to finish it, which I managed in 03.04.04, and not to come last! I achieved both.
“I chose Macmillan for the work that they do in supporting people with cancer, and their families. They were great, along with St Michael’s, and everyone else involved in making Mum’s time with us as easy for her and us as possible.”
