IT’S GOOD TO BE BACK
As we follow the roadmap, more and more people are looking forward to taking part in their usual activities at the halls and hopefully we will continue to be open into next year and beyond, even if we have to adhere to various Covid restrictions like social distancing.
Our team of 3 part-time staff have tried hard to accommodate all returning groups, having contacted them all to see if they wanted their old slots back. Unfortunately, some were unable to say when or if they could ever return, which is sad to see. However, we have had some new hirers take up some of the space, which is good news. As a charity ourselves, we have struggled through the pandemic and even had to make one staff post redundant due to the reduction in hire income we have suffered.
The board of trustees has agreed a marketing plan and, as part of that, here is some of what we are currently planning:
August
Village get-together to create the poppy displays watch out for Facebook postings for more information.
September
HOOK FLOWER & PRODUCE SHOW at The Elizabeth Hall on Sunday 12th September including team room, tombola, produce stall, Scarecrow display and Hook In Bloom winners presentations.
MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING on Friday 24th September in Hook Community Centre. Last year, even though we had to work within Covid guidelines, we still managed to raise nearly £1K.
October
COMEDY EVENING on Saturday 16th in The Elizabeth Hall but look out for more details.
Halloween – Friday 27th October in The Elizabeth Hall – more details will be published nearer the date.
December
Our popular annual SANTA’S TEA PARTIES in Hook Community Centre on Tuesdays 7th and 14th December are going ahead, ALL volunteers are in place. More details and information later in the year.
Hook Books
Don’t forget that Hook Books’ pop-up community library is on the 1st Thursday of each month at the Elizabeth Hall between 2-4pm, as well as its ‘top up’ service in Tesco. Please keep those fiction paperbacks and children’s books coming into the Elizabeth Hall for Hook Books as they are key to its continuing success.
Not only are children’s books available in the pop-up library but there is a special bookcase of children’s books in The Elizabeth Hall foyer. We have plans to put one in Hook Community Centre too. Hook Books is also supporting the ‘Find A Book’ initiative for children. Look for special bags with children’s books in them around the village.
With nearly 2,000 books to choose from at monthly event, it is also a popular social gathering with scrumptious homemade cakes and teas/coffees to be enjoyed. So, make sure the monthly Hook Books dates are in your diary and come and join us.
