Hallowe’en
Our annual children’s Hallowe’en party is on Thursday 31st October from 2.30 to 4.30pm and there is a nominal charge of £1 per child. The wicked witch has planned plenty of entertainment for the children alongside spooky activity to keep them amused, plus there will be Hallowe’en themed refreshments to keep our revellers going. At the moment we are not sure whether we will have pumpkin carving because the weather has had an effect on the supply of pumpkins!
Quiz Night
Tickets are already selling for the HVH Quiz Night on Saturday 17th November – 7pm to 10pm – at The Elizabeth Hall, so do start sorting out your team members soon. Tickets are just £12 for a team of 6 and there’s a cash prize for the winning team. Bring your own refreshments, plus there’s a raffle too.
Santa’s Tea Parties
Children are already booking up to have tea with Santa on Monday 9th and Wednesday 11th December, so if you want to secure your place and meet the special gentleman in a red suit, especially on the Monday, book as soon as possible. Tickets are just £6.50 for tea, a story with Santa and a present.
Book a Room in the Halls…………….
Hook Village Halls has regular events, classes and meetings to suit every age and taste, making them the hub of our community. If you want to start your own regular group or activity, visit the website or phone 01256 764000 to ask about our introductory packages for new weekly hirers to help get you going. In addition to hall hire, the HVH charity also hosts its own fantastic activities to ensure everyone has a chance to make use of the halls.
Hook Flower & Produce Show 2019
The Community Centre was buzzing with competitors and visitors at the Hook Flower & Produce Show in September. Thank you to everyone who supported the show, which was a super community event. Thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets for our Summer Draw, which raised over £400.
Hook Books
Another community venture that is proving to be successful. The new pop-up community library is doing really well on the 3rd Thursday of the month between 2 and 4pm as well as its ‘top up’ service in Tesco. Please keep those fiction paperbacks and children’s books coming into the Elizabeth Hall for Hook Books.
With over 1,500 books to choose from at the Elizabeth Hall monthly event, it is also a popular social gathering with scrumptious homemade cakes and cream teas to be enjoyed. So make sure the monthly Hook Books dates are in your diary and come and join us.
Valentine’s Ceilidh
Again tickets are already selling for our Valentine’s Ceilidh on Saturday 15th February. The top notch country dance band ‘Between the Acts’ will be bringing the evening alive with their foot tapping live music. So make a note of the date now because we know the evening, for just £25 to include a two course Haggis meal, will be a sell-out.
Other Dates on the Horizon
The entertainment has been arranged for our free Half Term Fun on Wednesday 19th February. There will be farm animals, Guide Dogs, willow weaving, seed planting and other super stands to explore. For those visitors who want to see Safari Pete he will once again be in the upstairs hall with his exotic animals. We make a nominal charge of £2.50 for the limited places special talk.
Then in March the Quiz Night returns plus we have booked a welcome return for a Laughterhouse comedy evening during the autumn of 2020.
Hopefully you will have received the village halls programme on your doormat showing what’s coming in the months ahead. If you haven’t (or you’ve lost it), they are available at the Elizabeth Hall and Hook Community Centre. Both halls also have a wealth of general information as to what’s going on in Hook, or visit www.hookvillagehalls.org.uk or join our Facebook page.
