MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING
Did you know that by 2020 nearly 1 in 2 of the population will receive a cancer diagnosis at some time during their life? Everyone has someone close that has been affected by the dreadful disease. Show your support by coming along to Hook Community Centre on Friday 28th September from 10 am to noon to enjoy a cup of coffee and delicious cake whilst raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
Last year we raised £270, so help us to collect even more money this year. We are already off to a good start having raised over £50 for Macmillan on the recent Pamper Evening raffle.
DATE FOR YOUR DIARY
By now your Winter Events Programme leaflet should have landed on your doormat and already we have another event to add to it – the HVH Quiz Night on Saturday 17th November, 7 for 7.30pm in Hook Community Centre. Tickets are just £12 for a team of 6. There is raffle plus a cash prize for the winning team. Bring your own refreshments.
THANK YOU JONATHON
It’s thanks to County Councillor Jonathon Glen that we will be able to hold our very popular Wildlife at Half Term day on Wednesday 20th February in Hook Community Centre. Jonathon has awarded us £600 from his County Councillor devolved budget. Thank you Jonathon for all your support.
Last year we had so many visitors that villagers have suggested that we should charge a nominal amount for at least part of the event to limit numbers a little. We have yet to decide on the mechanics of this because we also want every child to have a chance to attend the main attractions free of charge. Watch this space as to how we sort this one!
HALLS FOR HIRE
Two of the smaller halls at the Elizabeth Hall, in keeping with the rest of the building, have been refurbished and freshly painted. These two halls are perfect for meetings or small parties.
If you want to arrange a child’s birthday party or other celebration, the Community Centre and Elizabeth Hall offer 7 various sized halls and rooms for hire to suit meetings, classes, parties and more!
Hook residents (RG27 9..) can book the large halls in both venues for as little as £18.30 per hour. Our amazing 3 hour children’s party rates start at just £30.00.
Two Hook folk who will not be paying for hall hire for their family party are Lorrel Currie and Peter Wakeham for they won a 3 hour party in Hook Community Centre in the HVH raffle at the recent Hook Village Show. Congratulations Lorrel and Peter and thank you for helping to raise funds in the raffle for the halls. We hope you enjoy a lovely get together.
OUR REGULAR CALL FOR TRUSTEES/DIRECTORS

MORE VILLAGE HALLS EVENTS TO PUT IN YOUR DIARY
In addition to external organisations hiring the village halls, HVHCA also runs events and activities to keep our village halls alive and vibrant, to help with fundraising, and so that everyone has a chance to enjoy our fantastic facilities.
On Sunday 9th September the Village Halls join forces with the Hook Allotment Association and Hook In Bloom to bring the village the Hook Flower & Produce Show and the Hook In Bloom presentation. Again another very popular village event, which takes place in the Community Centre. Look at the Hook in Bloom article to see how you too can get involved.
Tables are also being booked well in advance for our Music and Paella Evening on Saturday 22nd September at the Elizabeth Hall. Tickets are just £20 per person and includes food and a live band from Guildford called The Famous Five. Plus there’s a cash bar. The Famous Five band is very popular so the evening should be great fun.
Another popular event where tickets are selling well in advance is the Laughterhouse Comedy Night, on Saturday 20th October, which is being organised by Jan Jacks who runs the Basingstoke Laughterhouse Comedy Club. At the last comedy evening, The Elizabeth Hall was filled with laughter and this year’s evening should be even better especially as Jan has secured Jonny Awsum to headline the evening. The cost is just £14.50 per ticket and again there’s a cash bar. Adults only.
Children’s Halloween Party is on Friday 26th October from 2.30pm to 4.30pm in the Elizabeth Hall – more details nearer the day. Then on Saturday 9th February 2019 plans are afoot for a Valentine themed Ceilidh. So another lively village gathering! Watch out for more Half Term Fun on Wednesday 20th February – 11am to 4pm in Hook Community Centre too.
Due to unforeseen circumstances Hook Village Halls Charitable Association reserves the right to alter or cancel any of the above events. E&OE
